Studio Mango have worked with us on two projects in Cooktown. The first was a modest home for us while we worked up a development proposal for a hillside site in Cooktown. This home has worked very well, we have enjoyed living there for the past three years, and we think it will sell very well.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were not able to proceed with Studio Mango’s excellent unit development proposal for the hillside site, and instead proposed a dual occupancy alternative. Studio Mango undertook this design as well, cleverly solving the difficult access and buildability of this steep and rocky site. They also helped steer it through Council and negotiated reduced setbacks.

We now have the first half built and are very excited with how it is turning out. It takes full advantage of the magnificent views and we can’t wait to move in.

Studio Mango are friendly, easy to work with and produce great quality documentation. We happily recommend them to others.

I have been working with Studio Mango for almost a decade on my very personal labour of love – a house and studio on the Esplanade in Cairns, as well as my Aircraft Maintenance Facility at Cairns Airport, and other commercial ventures.

Studio Mango have worked collaboratively with me throughout this time, always coming up with creative and innovative solutions to my needs. They have worked closely with me to provide exciting and intricately detailed designs for the house and studio that culminated in the studio winning 2009 Far North Queensland House of the Year. A very satisfying finish to a great creative process.

They have also recently designed a tiny but beautiful cafe to be built into renovated units. It was of a high enough standard to achieve a planning approval from Cairns Regional Council against the odds.

We really appreciated having Studio Mango help steer us through the redevelopment of our home, which presented many design challenges, trying to make the best of what we had to work with. Admittedly we had high expectations, and they didn’t have a lot of help in what stood before them. Thankfully, they had some great ideas and the vision to make our house the home it is today.

After an initial meeting with architect James Maude of Studio Mango we felt comfortable with this small, energetic practice and engaged their services. Our brief was for a small, contemporary, lightweight house, utilising materials that would ensure minimal maintenance.

During the planning stages Studio Mango clearly advised us of architectural options, legislative procedures and applicable time frames, all of which proved to be accurate.

The process, from various site evaluations, through concept sketches to final design and certification, was both enjoyable and stress free, with considerable dialogue between ourselves and Studio Mango’s team.

We believe Studio Mango’s design, selection of building materials and their interpretation of our needs will provide us with a practical and architecturally rewarding residence.
